| buh? change your webcomic links! :D |
[29 Dec 2005|09:19pm] |
*L* weirdness that is the internet. Apparently someone with too much time on their hands googled Damien and whined because I had this LJ. Breaks my heart. No, really. :P
Anyhow!!
Nocturnia should be back to regular updates once Blatah is finished in a month or two. Until then, updates will be spotty at best. Mind! The keenspace servers are officially changing... so please, remember to switch over your bookmarks to the following URLs or you'll no longer be able to see the comics:
http://blatah.comicgenesis.com and http://nocturnia.comicgenesis.com
The artbook is still out, should you want to purchase it. ;) go to my homepage at http://www.uneide.com/art for the info and link. It should also be available through AMAZON.COM in mid January.
As for the winner of the promotional plushie? ARION MORGAN! Please let me know which Blatah or Nocturnia plushie you'd like. :)

| The joy of webcomics! |
[20 Dec 2005|09:01pm] |
So glad that both webcomics are updating (remember that Nocturnia is on keenspace now!) but kind of... bittersweet that blatah is nearing its end. So much to happen soon! Resolutions are always hard, I find... and well, Blatah will end around its anniversary on february. Talk about strange.
*S* Happy holidays to all!

Heh, so you have probably noticed that the comic is updating again. Why the hiatus? Pregnancy and an overseas move, imagine that! I'm 7 months pregnant and back home at last, so the comic should renew regular updating starting next week.
Keep in mind that come the end of October when I give birth it will likely be spotty again for a bit, as other things will take priority.
Starting tomorrow I will be having a table at the Artist's Alley at Anime Evolution http://www.animeevolution.com in Vancouver, B.C., Canada. If you are in the area, drop by and say hello! I'll have a ton of merchandise and art from both comics and I love meeting the fans. :)
Wish me luck!

Well, on the off chance you have been itching to share your views on a particular fic, requests particular scenes or ask about pairings, this is the place to do it.
Input is more than welcome, as I am only now getting on my slash shoes, so to speak. Besides, always curious to hear what intrigues!
*ponders* now to get my hands on more icons... I should probably make some slashy ones, hm?

| About the Mailing List! |
[18 Mar 2004|06:49am] |
Most of you probably know that I've started a yahoo mailing list for slash fics and scenes that either didn't go into the comics or were simply too graphic or violent to put there.
Since its pretty tightly moderated to keep out spam, I thought that people might want a forum to share their opinions, ask questions, suggest scenes they'd like depicted, etc... and well, this is it!
The Shadowspires LJ will be changing to accomodate that... and I intend to make it friends only so that we can keep people's opinions within a rather close circle. Most announcements for Nocturnia are made on the front page of the comic, making this LJ redundant as a simple source for news.
Likewise, I have also heard a bit about LJ communities, and if there is the interest of perceived need perhaps we can switch over to one of those-- let me know. ;)

Well, hopefully you've noticed that Nocturnia has been updating, ;) understandably, some people have been asking about Angus, and about the events that took place in the past with the sidhe Rendering.
Worry not, it will get explained. I could be evil and just run off cackling, but honestly it -will- be covered over the next few weeks.
Adrian -is- changing, since some of you picked up on the pointed ears. He isn't the only one... Damien has been in the hands of the Shadow Queen as long, and been exposed to far stronger magics. The blood of both twins is being triggered, though in drastically different ways. ;)

Yes, I am aware that I am a day ahead from most of you. Halloween is also not celebrated in Japan, though I have been exposing my students to the joys of it through watching The Nightmare Before Christmas I have decided that Jack's Pumpkin King dance at the begginning is one of the most sensual things ever, which should clue you in as to how disturbed I am...

So, news! Tonight is the Halloween update, and it marks the return from the month^long hiatus. Now as for the rant and lengthy explanation, it can be found here:

Now I've been recently offered forum hosting with the cool creator of the Protocol Seven boards where other comics currently are, and have decided to take her up on it. For once, steady forums would be welcome, much as I suspect they will be inhabited by tumbleweeds and moths. PLEASE do not have a repeat of the tagboard incidents. Feel free to post, I always welcome input- but keep in mind to be respectful of my work, and something that means much to me as its creator.

Ah, behold the word that strikes fear into the hearts of readers and creators alike.
The dreaded hiatus. It is a wonderful thing to have people that appreciate your work, that love it enough to demand more, and ocassionally smother. That being said, this is primarily a selfish enterprise, a story that I wanted to tell simply because -I- wanted to tell it.
The muse has been throughly flattened and slain. I hope that removing the tagboard and giving myself a brief break will bring him back, but as it stands I'm not sure how long it will last - perhaps a couple of weeks, perhaps indefinitely. I don't intend to leave you hanging about the tale, so I will retake it. Just not for a little while.Should you be art deprived, go look at my Deviant Art gallery and amuse yourself. *S* http://uneide.deviantart.com

I like pooka. I am very, very fond of pooka, though the one in Nocturnia are my personal take on them. I'm surprised that now that we're in the sidhe lands the narrative seems so much more linear... we will see what happens later, I suppose? *G* Brain is asleep. Truly and completely asleep. SEeing that its 10 am and I'm at work, this is likely not a good thing, even when my desktop is looking temptingly comfy. At any rate, after the one week break nocturnia resumes this wednesday and I have already the update queued.
hmr... tired.. Remarkably enough this post seems to have some sort of rambling sense despite how sleep deprived I am. :p Managed to do a fairly decent Adrian sketch earlier this week, which is always good... the female characters are nowhere near as cooperative in terms of art, and I'm still scrambling to depict both the Summer and the winter Queens. We'll see.

Or thereabouts, yes. :p Will have to miss the update this week, since I wil be working late. My first missed update, and hopefully the last. Nocturnia... well, I worry sometimes, because it isn't meant to be a linear storyline. I think people -expect- a fair amount of things from it,but frankly er.... tough? This is an exploration, and I cannot promise that all will make sense at the end. Or be explained. All are welcome to share the ride but...

If you read my Blatah LJ you've probably heard the gist of this... ;)
This of course, isn't precisely a new thought on my end. I've long wondered at the power that we - as creators- hold over our creations. Does it no engender responsibility as well? Ah, but to whom, one might ask? To our storytelling, foremost - I've gotten both flames and giddy rejoicing over the recent strips and I left with the same response... everything in my webcomics, both Blatah and Nocturnia, happens for a reason.
If you are seeing two characters getting together, there is a song in the background, a particular choice of coloring or even a type of tree? Every element is there for a purpose. True, I am aware that most people don't sit there and dissect every color choice I make, or bother to figure out that the patterns on a certain coverlet are the seedpods of passionfruit flowers, and what they might mean as an addendum to the whole. As a matter of fact, one of the earlier strips even includes a second strip, hidden... if you click on the image, it will show you Adrian's inner mind, and perhaps a poem you are now familiar with.
I know I am a dork, and that the likelyhood of anyone picking up on any of the visual clues is slim to none.. but it comes from my degrees in humanities and English I think, the need to layer and re-layer, and add nuances for the fun of it. Arguably, I am becoming reconciled to the notion that people see it simply as a fantasy,or fan service. Even Adrian's nudity, I should point out, it to accent his vulnerabity, and a passage into something akin to a rebirth, rather than for the sake of fanservice.
A creator's responsibility, after all, is to be true to the tale that screams to be told, and to the characters that shape it.

Lo guys- Well, I liked last weeks a lot better, needless to say, but the amount of time it took to put all the detail in was absolutely mind boggling. All the same, things are starting to shape up and I think that you can start to see some of the sidhe politics and courts that will be the background of the overarching story.
At any rate, I need sleep before taking family on more tourism so... laters! Uneide

^_^ There is now a Nocturnia store. For the moment, it only includes what I make and sell myself - i.e. bookmarks and art prints for both Blatah and Nocturnia. I do have a Cafepress store, but I'm a bit tired of what a rip-off it is. ^_^;; These are the things that I am sending to Anime Evolution in Vancouver, so wish me luck!

Canto 3 has begun! I even updated it a day in advance, since I will probably have to work late tonight. Aren't I cool? *basks in own glory then punctures like a balloon and goes up up and away..* Note also that thanks to the better half, the Canto dropdowns are now compressed and make for easier navigation. :D
At any rate, I rather like how Angus looks for the cover of Canto#3. Incidentally, Angus happens to be my muse so I am always happy when he looks pleased. The more content he is, the more likely I am to get art done. :3
The design of both the Seelie and the Unseelie court is taking quite a while... I have rather vivid images in my head, but managing to put them into paper is an entirely different proposition. At the particular juncture that Adrian is tossed into the world of the sidhe, both courts are in dissarray and in an odd...truce of sorts. So much that ambassadors from each court are in discussions - things are starting to come to an end for the sidhe, hence their progressive forays into human spheres.
The poem that inspired Angus's Creation...( Read more... )

Someone commented on my Elfwood along the lines of "Sidhe? like the ones in 7th sea? "
... Celtic lore people. Man, do most people get their folklore and mythology from rp games alone these days???? Like the one person that commented on the title, "Scheherazade" :
"Oh, you mean Allen Schezar's mecha?" *TWITCH* Don't get me wrong. I love Escaflowne... but don't people READ anymore??? *sigh*
Anyhow! Very proud of the last panel in this update, actually. Managed to do it despite a week where I'd rather gnaw my hands off than physically more to do anything, I actually love that it turned out as I saw it...
hint, just in case.... fairy rings... do people remember the folklore associated with them? :3

Hm, maybe I should have put a disclaimer at the start of Nocturnia for people not to expect to read it as one would most comics and/or graphic novels. Oh, wait, I did.
...Nocturnia is a loose collection of tales, for instance Scheherazade, but truthfully, it is supposed to hold my more... stream of consciousness way out there writing. Yes, it is still telling a tale, but it is by no means a linear one. Yes, by the end all -should- make sense, though perchance it will necessitate the reader look it over again, to see all the hints that were planted there. If I include the lyrics to the song, a reference to a specific flower? You better believe that they hold some significance. I never include something simply because it sounds pretty. ;)
I realize this is asking a lot from the readers, but the format isn't likely to change. I suppose I should try to explain again that its more like a circle weave, looping back to the begginning. Yes, the reader is only gathering the pieces right now, but in the end they will form a whole.
I want it a Keats-ian endeavour, a tale to be dissected! A Borges-like unraveling of fact and myth! Yes, I realize that I am being completely unrealistically ambitious but... well, I suppose I can always point people to Blatah! for a more linear tale.
That being said! Since unceremonious death of forums *insert tumbleweeds here* feel free to post comments and questions here, and I'll do my best to answer them without giving away all of the plot. ;)
